The books contain lots more patterns for your tangling pleasure.

Every Bead has a Story

That’s the title of a new ebook by my friend Cyndi Lavin. The first chapter is now available for free on Cyndi’s web site. The books begins with step-by-step descriptions of basic bead embroidery stitches, and continues with a lovely medallion project.

The techniques are illustrated by step-by-step photos. Although I usually prefer diagrams, the photos illustrate the steps very clearly. If you have any interest in bead embroidery, check it out!

Some great finds at a public library sale

Earlier this week, our local public library was having a book sale, and I scored three great 1970s books for two dollars each.

I first got involved in crafting in the ’70s, and I remember buying the Reader’s Digest  Complete Guide to Needlework. I also remember giving it away (What was I thinking?) and now I have it again. It’s a great resource book with lots of detailed technique diagrams.

The second book is by Erica Wilson who had a needlecraft show on PBS in the ’70s. I hadn’t seen this book before, it’s fabulous.

The last book is Designing for Embroidery by Jan Messent. What’s especially useful in this book it that the author shows how to take images and simplify them for embroidery designs. The same techniques can be applied to beadwork designs.
